Flights and transporation

Sharp Airlines flies the short leg to Whitemark from Launceston, Melbourne and Hobart. Their flight schedule is available here.

If you are feeling more adventurous, charter flights are available from both Tasmania and Victoria, and can land at the nearby Killiecrankie Airstrip. Contact us for more information.

Furneaux Freight operate water freight services out of Bridport in Tasmania and Port Welshpool in Victoria, which provide the main freight connection for the island, which provides limited passenger facilities. Details can be found here.

Hire a care from one of the two hire car companies on the island (Flinders Island Car Rental and Flinders Island Cabin Park and Car Hire), and discover the island at your own pace. Ask us for tips on locations!

Once you have secured your vehicle, we recommend you head to Whitemark to stock up on your groceries before driving up to Palana. We provide plenty of fridge and freezer space to ensure you can focus on relaxing into Palana once you are here. If you are arriving on a Sunday, the IGA is likely to be closed: please contact us so we can assist with ensuring groceries are available for you on arrival.

Palana Beach Retreat is roughly 50km north of Whitemark. Drive back past the airport (or head north if you are heading straight to the retreat) and follow the road until it ends. The drive is very scenic, and includes picturesque views over Sawyers Bay as you approach Emita. The road is sealed for approximately half the trip, and the balance is undertaken on a formed dirt road. Please be careful as you drive. Take particular care if driving at dusk or at night, due to the considerable wildlife population which emerges when the sun goes down.
